A passion for surf, sea, and adventure; a strong attachment to Sicily; and an intense desire to win. These characteristics have distinguished Laura since she was a child. Born in Marsala, Sicily on March 16, 1990, Laura has collected achievements and trophies since a young age. She is well-known for being the only athlete in the world to have won five consecutive medals at the Volvo ISAF Youth World Championships, including consecutive gold medals in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Laura was also a representative of the Olympic windsurfing section of the Italian Navy from 2009 to 2015. At the age of 16, she joined the Italian National Olympic Sailing Team, and in 2007 she was awarded for the Audi Sailor of the Year.

Laura's subsequent victories led her to her current dominant position in the Italian and international sailing scene. Laura's achievements include: a silver medal at the Medemblik World Cup in 2009, a bronze medal at the Hyères World Cup in 2010, a silver medal at the European Championship in 2010, 2nd Final Ranking in World Cup 2011, and a bronze medal at the Rolex Miami World Cup in 2010 & 2011. Laura also won a gold medal during the French Ligue of Biscarosse, took 4th place in the PWA Slalom World Cup, and 8th place at the RS:X European Championships in 2013. During 2013 she was awarded Best Sailor of the Day in the professional windsurfing PWA World Cup and Best Sicilian Athlete by the Italian national newspaper La Repubblica. In 2014, Laura won a silver medal at the Miami World Cup and finished in the 3rd position in the ISAF World Ranking. In 2015 she reached the fifth position at the Delta Lloyd in Medemblik and won the Italian Championship in the bay of Naples.

Thanks to a partnership with the French athlete Charline Picon (Olympic gold medal in Rio 2016), Laura had the opportunity to train at the National Sailing Center in La Rochelle (Atlantic coast - France) from 2013 to 2016 with one of the best sailing teams in the world. When the 2016 Olympic campaign ended, having spent 15 years competing at a high level in the world of Olympic sailing, Laura decided to take a break from regattas to concentrate on completing her university studies. In 2017 she graduated with a degree in Marketing of Services and Information Technologies at La Rochelle University (La Rochelle - France), and worked in the medical sector for the Oral3D start-up.

In December 2018, Laura returned to racing for the prestigious and historic Sailing Club Roggero di Lauria (in Palermo, Italy), winning the bronze medal in 2019 at the Italian Championships. In 2019, she secured a top 10 position internationally, finishing in eighth place both at the Andalusian Olympic Week and at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik. Inside the Stagnone Nature Reserve (Marsala city), where Laura sailed for the first time, in 2021 she founded her sailing school. During the athlete's career, Laura obtained the Windsurfing, Kitesurfing & Sailing Instructor Diploma.
